On Combining WS-Policy4MASC and ASF to Support Business-Driven Autonomic Service-Oriented Computing

چکیده
WS-Policy4MASC is an XML language for specification of policies for run-time Web service management. Among its original contributions is specification of diverse business values (e.g., profit, customer satisfaction) and control strategies maximizing different business values. While it was originally developed for the MASC (Manageable and Adaptable Service Compositions) middleware, it can also be used in a broader context of autonomic serviceoriented computing. We discuss our research on using WS-Policy4MASC in the Adaptive Server Framework (ASF), which supports composing adaptive applications on Java and .NET platforms. WS-Policy4MASC enriches ASF with policy definition semantics and enables complex policy management. The combination of WS-Policy4MASC and ASF forms a step towards businessdriven autonomic management of service-oriented systems.

Autonomic Business-Driven Dynamic Adaptation of Service-Oriented Systems and the WSPolicy4MASC Support for Such Adaptation
When a need for dynamic adaptation of an information technology (IT) system arises, often several alternative approaches can be taken. Maximization of technical quality of service (QoS) metrics (e.g., throughput, availability) need not maximize business value metrics (e.g., profit, customer satisfaction). The goal of autonomic business-driven IT system management (BDIM) is to ensure that operat...
متن کاملSupport for the Business Motivation Model in the WS-Policy4MASC Language and MiniZnMASC Middleware
The WS-Policy4MASC language and MiniZnMASC middleware for policy-driven management of service-oriented systems enable making IT system management decisions that maximize diverse business value metrics (e.g., profit, customer satisfaction). However, their past support for alignment with high-level business considerations was weak. Therefore, we introduce a new extension of WS-Policy4MASC that sp...
متن کاملOn Modeling and Maximizing Business Value for Autonomic Service-Oriented Systems
The existing Web service management solutions are almost exclusively focused on optimization of technical QoS metrics (e.g., availability). However, financial (e.g., profit) and other business value metrics (e.g., customer satisfaction) are more important than technical QoS metrics. We discuss the challenges of business value modeling and maximization in autonomic (e.g., self-healing) Web servi...
متن کاملPolicy-Driven Middleware for Manageable and Adaptive Web Services Compositions
MASC (Manageable and Adaptive Service Compositions)1 is a policy-based middleware for monitoring of Web service compositions and their dynamic adaptation to various runtime changes. The monitorable requirements and the adaptation actions are specified in the WS-Policy4MASC language which extends WS-Policy by defining new types of policy assertions. In this paper, we present an overview of MASC ...
متن کاملAn Autonomic Service Oriented Architecture in Computational Engineering Framework
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) technology enables composition of large and complex computational units out of the available atomic services. Implementation of SOA brings about challenges which include service discovery, service interaction, service composition, robustness, quality of service, security, etc. These challenges are mainly due to the dynamic nature of SOA. SOAmay often need to ...
